I write books for kids, teens and adults and do it to share my passion about the environment, travel and true stories. I’ve been lucky to host workshops, presentations etc and the feedback and response I receive at these events more than compensates me for the hours I devoted to creating my books.
The reality every author should know is that it is very difficult to make money by selling books.
Example, 300,000 NEW books were published in the USA, 186,000 in the UK last year and thousands in many other countries but only 200 books sold more than 100,000 copies. Books that sold over 1 M was less than ten…. Does that surprise you?
Unless you are a top selling author then don’t write books to make money! The exception is to have your book titles help you with your marketing. This could be a great way to promote a service (be an expert in X); sharing an experience (I sailed around the world etc) that will lead to the author gaining speaking opportunities, run workshops etc for which they can charge a fee.
